Frequently Asked Questions
Everything people usually ask about yapyep — what it is, how the squad works, and what happens to your dilemma.
- What is yapyep?
- yapyep is a comedy engine for everyday decisions. You type a low-stakes dilemma, a small cast of cartoon characters argues about it, and you get a shareable comic-strip verdict at the end.
- Is it free?
- Yes. yapyep is free to use and supported by a single banner ad. There's no account to create and nothing to install.
- Does my dilemma get sent to a server?
- No. The language model runs entirely inside your browser, so your dilemma, the argument, and the verdict are all generated on your device and never uploaded anywhere.
- Who are the characters?
- The first squad is three voices: the Realist, the Optimist, and the Pessimist. Each argues your dilemma from their own angle before the verdict lands.
- What kind of dilemmas work best?
- Low-stakes, playful ones — pizza or tacos, should I rewatch the show, should I text them back. yapyep is a comedy bit, not a serious advice tool.
- Can I use the verdict as real advice?
- No. Every verdict is fiction written for laughs. It is not medical, legal, financial, or mental-health advice. For anything serious, please talk to a qualified person.
- Why does it download something on my first visit?
- yapyep runs an AI model locally, so the first visit downloads the model's weight files once. They're cached afterward, which makes later visits much faster. Nothing about you is uploaded in the process.
- Why won't it run on my device?
- yapyep needs a browser with WebGPU support over a secure (HTTPS) connection. A recent Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari (iOS 18+) on a reasonably modern device works best. Older phones may struggle with the on-device model.
- Which languages does it support?
- The interface is available in 20 languages. The on-device model writes best in English; on phones and CPU-only browsers it is English-only, while desktop browsers with WebGPU can produce other languages.
- How are my data and consent handled?
- Analytics and ads load only after you accept the cookie banner, and your choice is stored locally so you aren't asked again. You can change it any time from "Cookie preferences" in the footer. See the Privacy page for specifics.
- Is yapyep safe for kids?
- yapyep aims to keep verdicts appropriate for users as young as ten. The squad refuses self-harm, sexual content, drugs, real medical or legal questions, and current politics, and routes anything heavy toward real help.
- How do I share a verdict?
- Save the comic strip as an image or copy the share link straight from the verdict screen. The image is rendered on your device, so sharing never uploads your dilemma.
